Six Weeks, a Set of Clubs, and a Trophy

Apeiron x Everton in the Community

Golf has a reputation problem. It's seen as expensive, closed off, and not for everyone — and for a lot of families across Merseyside, that reputation is the reason they've never picked up a club.

So we ran a six-week programme with Everton in the Community to find out what happens when you take the barriers away.

Starting from nothing

Most of the kids who turned up had never played golf before. Not "a bit rusty" — genuinely never held a club.

That shaped everything about how we ran it. Six weeks of coaching, built around getting people comfortable rather than getting them technical. Fun first. The swing comes later.

You learn quickly that the hardest part isn't teaching someone to hit a ball. It's convincing them they belong on a golf course in the first place.

Course ready

Every player on the programme got an Everton in the Community branded Apeiron polo.

That might sound like a small thing. It isn't. Golf clubs have dress codes, and not owning the right shirt is a genuine reason people don't turn up — one more small humiliation standing between someone and a game they might love. Handing over a polo removes it. It says: you're not a visitor here, you're a golfer, and you're dressed like one.

We also worked it so that with a parent or guardian present, players could take up free membership and keep going after the six weeks were up. There's no point building someone's confidence for six weeks and then handing them a bill.

The set of clubs

One lad took to it in a way you can't teach. He was there every session, and it was obvious the six weeks weren't going to be the end of it for him.

So we gave him a full set of clubs, so he could carry on straight away.

His family were in tears. If we're honest, so were we. That's not something we planned for or built into a programme document. It just happened, and it's the moment from the whole six weeks that has stayed with us.

Finishing properly

The programme ended the way it should — with an actual competition.

Nine holes, a real card, and a trophy presented by a former Everton player. For kids who six weeks earlier had never held a club, walking off a course with a trophy in their hands is a different thing entirely from finishing a coaching block.

Why we do it

Apeiron didn't start as a clothing brand that later found a cause. The Academy and the apparel have always been the same project — one funds the other.

Five percent of every order goes into Apeiron Academy. When you buy a polo from us, some of it ends up as a coaching session in a sports hall, or a set of clubs for a lad who's just discovered he's good at something.

That's the whole idea. It's not marketing. It's the reason the business exists.
